ESV Copyright & Usage Information
Glorify One displays Scripture text returned by the official English Standard Version (ESV) API. Passages are identified as ESV and are requested from Crossway; the website does not intentionally edit the wording of the Scripture text.
Scripture quotations are from the ESV® Bible (The Holy Bible, English Standard Version®), © 2001 by Crossway, a publishing ministry of Good News Publishers. Used by permission. All rights reserved. The ESV text may not be quoted in any publication made available to the public by a Creative Commons license. The ESV may not be translated into any other language.
Users may not copy or download more than 500 verses of the ESV Bible or more than one half of any book of the ESV Bible.
How Glorify One uses the ESV API
- The site requests one selected passage per request from the official ESV API. The curated reference list contains approximately 200 individual verse references; Scripture text is not stored as a local Bible database.
- The API terms limit use to 5,000 queries per day, no more than 1,000 requests per hour, and no more than 60 requests per minute. Requests may be throttled if these limits are exceeded.
- The API terms prohibit locally storing more than 500 verses or one-half of any book, whichever is less, and prohibit displaying more than 500 verses or one-half of any book on a page.
- The ESV wording must not be changed. Some optional formatting features may be omitted as allowed by Crossway's terms.
- The ESV API key is private and must not be sold, shared, published, or exposed in client-side code.
- The free API is limited to individuals and non-commercial organizations using it consistently with Crossway's stated conditions and statement of faith. Crossway defines a commercial website to include sites that primarily motivate purchases, paid services, or donations, or that accept advertising or sponsorships.
- Crossway may discontinue access to the service. Availability is not guaranteed.
